i-mate's latest contribution to the world of Pocket PC phones is the new i-mate K-JAR. Manufactured in association with China's TechFaith, the K-JAR's design is interesting to say the least: the display can be twisted to any comfortable viewing angle. The K-JAR is equipped with a large 2.8" QVGA resolution display. At the heart is a Texas Instruments OMAP750 processor running Windows Mobile 5.0, and bundled with 64 megs of RAM and 128MB ROM. Apart from Bluetooth, it's nice to see Wi-Fi's presence on this baby. No word on pricing or availability yet, so check back with us for more later.

Luvaglio Million Dollar Laptop is overpriced

UK luxury firm Luvaglio has released some pictures of its Million Dollar Laptop. Honestly, I wouldn’t care if this thing was covered in diamonds. For a million bucks, this thing better have a mind control device or some shit. The Million Dollar Laptop comes with a diamond encrusted power button, a 17-in backlit screen with a special non-reflecive coating, a 128 GB solid state hard drive, a Blu-Ray dive, and built in USB memory and MP3 player. The laptop will be precision made with the finest precious metals, leathers, and woods. Are the specs impressive? Definitely. Are they worth a million dollars? Hell no! Give me $750,000 and I’ll make the same thing for you for 25% less. No laptop should ever be more expensive than $5,000. Luvaglio is just being greedy. I would much rather spend it on this Million Dollar Hublot watch covered in bling.

Windows XP Coming To OLPC In 2008

Microsoft has announced they will be testing out the One Laptop Per Child device with Windows XP, sexing up the current Linux based system. Microsoft hasn’t announced how likely an official Windows version of the OLPC XO device will appear, though if tests are successful we can expect a better idea by the second half of 2008. Adding XP to the XO device would no doubt pump the price of the OLPC project over the sub-$200 price range already selected for the campaign. How much over is the question. If Microsoft can add XP at a moderate price it might be worth the compatibility, though if the price is even raised by $100, the whole process would be meaningless, as the price would be higher than many families could afford. Especially with even cheaper devices in the works.

Company of Heroes

Relic seem to be the new real time strategy masters as their new game, Company of Heroes, seems to attest. One can actually look past the fact that it is a WWII game because of how good it is, in fact very little seems to be wrong with the title.
The core gameplay is similar to Relic’s previous title, Dawn of War, with a whole lot of depth added in. The key resource points around the map have been divided into three types; ones that deal with manpower and unit caps, ones that provide fuel for building and for vehicles, and ones for ammunition which govern unit special abilities and armament. These resource points must be linked to your HQ zone via area control and so sections of the map in between these points become just as important and provide an extra tactical nuance. Coupled with this resource management are a variety of command trees that one can progress through to unlock special abilities such as artillery strikes, unit drops and offensive and defensive bonuses.
Gameplay focuses on tactical, company scale combat and all units are very versatile in what they can do. Infantry are able to clamber around all sorts of terrain which means one will be using them for the entire game alongside more specialised supporting units. Other supporting units consits of light and heavy armour, artillery and defensive units and it pays to have a healthy balance of all of them. The thing that really sets Company of Heroes apart from previous rts games is the fact that all terrain is full destructable, and, in addition to this units will take advantage of terrain as it is destroyed, infantry being the prime example. Maps become drastically altered as games progress and idilic french villages will become heaps of rubble by the end of a game.

Free Games - Dragon Ball Style

A quick search in Google shows that there are several gaming sites which target the word "free" when in fact they are paid services, not only do they advertise to the wrong market they make things difficult for the surfer who has a few minutes to spare and wants to have some fun during his/her leisure time.Today's gaming world has evolved from the stand alone console mentality into the vast world of the net, gaming applications which were popular back in the late 90's and first few years of this decade have now become available to the world without a subscription or any kind of fee. This is surely a gamer's heaven. Popular free games such as Pokemon, Super Mario, Donkey Kong, have all invaded the net with their action/strategy scheme but a game which became an all time classic due to the animation it is based on is Dragon Ball.Dragon ball is an successful animation which was launched in 1986 in Japan, it was based on the manga adaptation by Akira Toriyama who developed this action packed story into hundreds of half hour episodes. The main characters of the original series are Goku, Bulma, Roshi, Kuirin, Piccolo, etc. The story revolves around the fact that Goku is a powerful fighter who encounters many skilled opponents in ninja tournaments which turn out to be quite spectacular by the display of powers. On later episodes, Goku meets his rival and future friend Vegeta who just like himself is one of the few surviving Saiyans who survived the destruction of their home planet by fleeing from it to distant planets. The battles are fierce and Goku fights to protect earth becoming stronger each time. His special abilities are: super strength, super speed, teleportation, energy blast (kamehameha), super Saiyan (2,3,4)Because of its popularity many Dragon ball games were made available to online communities where Goku has once again to take on Vegeta, Freezer and the many foes he fought in the anime series. The popularity of this game grew as several versions were released to cover the characters introduced in later seasons such as Dragon ball Z and GT.The online version called Power Levels is just one of many which shows Goku in super Saiyan mode fighting against a strong Vegeta another free online version of the game is called "dimension" where you have more flexibility to choose the fighters, in this version you can fight as Piccolo, Gohan or Goku and your opponents can be Cell, Vegeta or Freezer. Whoever you decide to battle remember that free game versions of this great saga are waiting for you all over the web.

World of Warcraft Bank Management Primer

During your adventures in Azeroth, you will undoubtedly find a lot more stuff than you can immediately use. Some of that will go to the Auction House to raise funds for your mount…. eh … charity, and the rest you will probably want to keep, because its shiny and new, looks remotely useful, or you are a pack rat like I am.Blizzard allows only a limited number of in-game bank slots, which can be augmented through the use of bags. Bag slots in the bank can be purchased at a price of 10s for the first one, up to 25g for the 4th one and above. Obviously that is a lot of coin just to store stuff, so careful management is required. In its infinite Wisdom, Blizzard also allows the use of other characters on the same server as “banks”, meaning they have no other purpose than to store stuff for your main characters. I personally have 4 or 5, but you should be able to manage with a single bank character per character played, or even by 2 characters played. The one I currently use is an 18th-level babe-a-licious Blood Elf Mage named Zallesta, whom I played for a while then got bored of.Bank characters are dual-purposed. They should serve not only as a repository of assorted stuff, but as a gold depot and auctioneer-in-chief. This means that you should send everything you are not currently using to your bank. If you are a leatherworker, keep only the basics to level up your skill. All rare ingredients (Pearls and whatnots) should be sent to the bank for storage, as well as the leather you are not currently using. I know that in leather’s case, you can convert lesser leathers into greater ones (6 Thicks make a Rugged) but you’ll find you’ll be better of financially if you ship your lesser leathers to your bank to sell. In my case it works like that: I still use Thick and Rugged, so everything less goes to the bank (Heavy, Medium and Light). It takes AN INCREDIBLE AMOUNT of light leather to make a single Thick or Rugged, so just sell them. Same thing goes for cloth after you level your First Aid.A few patches ago, Blizzard made mail between characters on the same account instantaneous (more or less) so if you find that you need something your bank is holding, it is very quick and easy to transfer back and forth, and the cost is pretty much invisible (30c per stack). Added to that the ability to send up to 12 stacks per mail (as of patch 2.3.0 I think), the usefulness of Banks has greatly increased.Use your bank (or banks) as your primary Auctioneers. They will be able to concentrate all the cloth (for example) that your main character sends in singles into neat 20-stacks and sell them like that. They will sell better, and your bank will be left holding the cash. This will make respecting Rule Number 1 (”Thou Shalt Not Spend Thy Cash Frivolously”) much easier to respect, cutting down on impulsive purchases. If your Bank is your primary Auctioneer, you will also be able to leave your Main Character in outlying areas for questing purposes, cutting down on flight time and increasing leveling speed.Should you find that you are a super pack rat, you may want to create several banks - one for food, one for blacksmithing or leatherworking supplies, etc., but in general it should not be necessary.
